I am a married woman with 2 young children living in our home. I’ve noticed that a lot of our windows that we purchased 3 years ago(resale) have black mold all around. Due to limited finances, we are unable to purchase any new windows at this time. Is there any safe way to clean the windows? Is vinegar safe? A response to this area of concern, would be really appreciated.
You don’t have to buy new windows unless the ones you have are already damaged. Mold growth around the windows is in most cases due to chronic condensation. Therefore, the first thing you need to find out is the main cause and how to reduce condensation. Condensation is due to excess moisture in the air. When warm air containing water vapour (humidity) comes in contact with the cold glass surface, it is cooled causing the airborne moisture to condense into a liquid.
Some areas in the house such as bathrooms and kitchens naturally generate extra moisture regularly. Condensation is exacerbated by poor ventilation. To control mold growth, you need to find a way of reducing humidity in the house.
