Easily and Safely Test for Visible Black Mold in Your Home or Office
Why Test? Testing will tell if you have hazardous mold in your house
Black mold and its effects on our health is always in the news. However, black mold doesn’t refer to one specific type of mold and neither are the black molds the only toxic molds that can affect your family’s health.
Also, the presence of visible black mold around windows, on the walls, on wood or ceiling does not mean the type of mold referred to as “black mold” or Stachybotrys chartarum is present. Majority of molds in the house may appear black but they are not necessarily Stachybotrys chartarum. The only way to tell if you have the toxic type of black mold or not is to collect and send a sample to a laboratory for testing.
Who is most at risk of mold exposure?
Everyone is at risk. However, the elderly, young children, the sick, and those with a history of Asthma are at higher risk of suffering from mold related illnesses. So if you find mold in your home, it’s important for everyone’s health that it’s removed right away.
Where to test for black mold in the house
Mold can appear as slightly fuzzy, discolored, or slimy patches that increase in size as they grow. Black mold in the house can appear in various places such as the bathroom, on windows around the windowsills, on ceiling tiles, in the basement and on wood. Not every mold that appears black is “toxic black mold” and that is why for your peace of mind, mold testing is recommended.
If You Have Mold in Your Home, Don’t panic! We Can Help
The good news is that not all black molds that occur indoors can affect your health, but even the “harmless” type should be treated as potentially harmful and removed. You can control mold growth by eliminating or reducing moisture in your home.
Caution: If you have a large amount of hazardous mold present (over 10 square feet), please call a professional. Trying to remove large amounts of hazardous mold without specialized protection equipment and expertise in handling hazardous material can result in heavy exposure to toxic mold spores, which may cause you or your family to become ill.
